Alessandra Ambrosio, a Brazilian model who made it big in the 1990s is a sultry diva who is best known for her work with GUESS clothing. This svelte brunette who is 5’10’ tall is currently one of the Victoria’s Secret lingerie "angels". She is also associated with many established brands such as Revlon, Giorgio Armani etc. Aside from modeling work, she represents as the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.
Ambrosio was born as Alessandra Corine Ambrosioon April 11, 1981 in a small town of Erechim, Brazil to petrol station-owner parents. She is of Italian and Polish descent. She has a sister Aline, who is currently practicing law. The dream of becoming a model entered her mind when she was just eight years old. Apparently, she took this decision upon seeing the picture of top cover girl Karen Mulder in a magazine. Ambrosio, however, was conscious about her large ears and at the age of 11, she got them opined back through cosmetic surgery. She had to suffer through complications for two whole ears after that and she later admitted to her bad experience and is promptly discouraged from going through any cosmetic surgery what so ever.
Career in Modeling
Alesaandra started her training by enrolling into modeling classes, when she was 12. She succeeded in winning the Brazil's Elite Model Look in 1996 which opened up doors of opportunities for her. She appeared on the cover of the Brazilian Elle magazine. Her big break came in the form of her bagging the Millennium GUESS? Campaign along with her friend and fellow Brazilian supermodel Ana Beatriz Barros. Since then, Ambrosio has hardly looked back with more and more offers plunging her way.
Her portfolio consists of big names in all the areas she had ventured into. Be it print ads, Cosmopolitan, ELLE, GQ, Harper's Bazaar, Marie Claire, Ocean Drive, Vogue and the Glamour or popular brands like Revlon, Christian Dior, Giorgio Armani, Rolex, Oscar de la Renta, Gucci, Escada, Roccobarocco, Calvin Klein and Ralph Lauren, she has worked with the best and the famous. In fact Alesaandra was also a part of the famed Pirelli Calendar.
Ambrosio has also walked the ramps for fashion designers like Laura Biagiotti, Christian Lacroix, Byblos, Fendi, Issey Miyake, Kenzo, Christian Dior, Nicole Miller, Ralph Lauren, Giorgio Armani, Vivienne Westwood, and Oscar de la Renta. Like her fellow counterparts she too wasn’t spared from the lure of television and has made appearances in several shows like a
cameo as herself on HBO's Entourage along with Izabel Goulart; The Late Late Show with Craig Kilborn; Late Night with Conan O’Brien; as guest judge on Project Runway season 2: Team Lingerie and The Tyra Banks Show where she was a guest twice, an appearance alongside TV personality, Regis Philbin in a worldwide commercial for Hummer H2. In 2006, she had a cameo on big screen in the box-office hit movie, Casino Royale appearing briefly as tennis girl #1.
In 2000, her rampwalk for the Victoria's Secret Fashion Show began an association that proved fruitful for her in the long run. In 2004, she was selected as the first spokesmodel for Victoria's Secret PINK line. Ambrosio, in fact, is a secret ‘Angel’ with the lingerie line. Her most notable walk down the runway was in 2005 wearing lingerie made entirely out of candy.
Ambrosio is currently the face for the UK Company Next and Armani A|X. Ambrosio stars Next's first television campaign in 12 years.
Ambrosio is currently the National Ambassador for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, which helps raising awareness for the unpredictable, often disabling disease of the central nervous system and raise funds for the ongoing research for its cure. Her father was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis in the late nineties. That is the main driving force for her to fight against this disease.
